Following the issue in 2005 dedicated to great Italian wines, this year the Republic of San Marino issues a philatelic series dedicated to great European wines.
The author has inserted eight stamps with a value of € 0,65 each, on a single souvenir sheet, which reproduces the labels of important wines from 7 European countries, chosen by two experts in the wine-making sector. The souvenir sheet begins with a declaration by Leonardo da Vinci “Et però credo che molta felicità sia agli homini che nascono dove si trovano i vini buoni" (but I believe that great happiness awaits those men who are born where good wines are to be found).France presents two champagnes, the TARLANT Cuvée Louis Brut – vinified and aged in oak barrels and the BAUGET-JOUETTE – aged for 3 years, Portugal presents the 1996 Vintage PORTO produced by the Quinta do Estanho winery, Croatia the autochthonous 2006 white wine ZLAHTINA produced on the island of Krk by the Katunar winery, Germany presents the PETRI RIESLING, Hungary the TOKAJI, Spain the RIBERA DEL DUERO from the Carmelo Rodero winery and Slovenia the TEODOR BELO from the SIMCIC winery
